BIG KAISER introduces NRA Holder to reduce runout by 85%, and extend tool life

17.11.2022

BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, announces the NRA Holder, a new adjustable tool holder that reduces runout of spindle systems. In a typical application, the NRA Holder can reduce runout by 85%, from 20µm to only 3µm.

The runout accuracy of machine tool spindles often decreases after extended use. Long drilling or reaming operations on such machines lead to variations in precision, as well as shortened tool life.

The NRA Holder overcomes these problems, providing adjustable runout for roughing and precision work. This makes it perfect for machines with deteriorating precision, due to intensive use. Reducing the runout of spindle systems extends tool life, which enables machines to be used longer, and expensive service or replacement to be postponed. The NRA Holder also delivers uniform hole diameter and improved surface roughness.

“It’s a win-win: the new NRA Holder is better both for the environment and the wallet, enabling expensive services or investment in new machines to be delayed,” said Giampaolo Roccatello, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Europe at BIG KAISER. “The NRA Holder will be particularly useful for all small to medium machine shops that are reaming or drilling, as well deep hole drilling and have problems with their precision due to wear on older spindles and machines.”

The NRA Holder has a straightforward design and is easy to adjust with a runout adjustment screw, and a runout adjustment ring, held in place with three lock bolts.

The NRA Holder is suitable for use with BIG KAISER’s New Baby Chuck and Hi-Power Milling Chuck. With the New Baby Chuck, it provides a clamping range of ø0.5mm to ø20mm, while with the Hi-Power Milling Chuck the supported clamping range is ø20mm to ø32mm.

With both versions, the maximum achievable runout at the tool end is about 2 µm or less

The NRA Holder is available now.
