BIG KAISER announces carbide boring bar for fast, accurate roughing

23.03.2023

BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, announces two new MW rough boring bars. Manufactured from carbide, they deliver much more precise results than steel alternatives, with reduced vibration and chattering.

Conventional cylindrical boring bars are manufactured from steel, which has the disadvantage that there can be a large amount of flexing. By using carbide, which has four times the density of steel, flexing is decreased by a factor of more than 16 and vibration is thus greatly reduced. This means that carbide tools are much more precise and exhibit reduced chatter, thus giving much better results than other boring head materials, plus they also permit extremely fast roughing.

Using carbide instead of steel prolongs the life of cutting tools, because there is less runout and less wear. Carbide boring bars deliver precise concentricity, whilst their excellent perpendicularity (straightness) optimizes runout. Their outstanding anti-chatter performance also improves surface quality.

"Carbide anti-vibration boring bars are important tool accessories for CNC machining, because they solve the problem of working accuracy and stability caused by cutter vibration in machining," said Giampaolo Roccatello, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Europe at BIG KAISER, "with these two new boring bars, our customers can take full advantage of the benefits of carbide technology."

MW rough boring bars are straight-shank indexable rough boring tools for small diameters based on the BIG KAISER 319 SW series. The new carbide boring bars are suitable for roughing of through holes with diameters from 16mm to 21mm, i.e., they are not suitable for blind holes. They are available now.
