BIG KAISER opens new TechCenter

04.06.2020

Ruemlang, Switzerland – June 11, 2020 – BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, has opened a new TechCenter at its headquarters in Ruemlang, Switzerland.

The new TechCenter will enable customers to see BIG KAISER’s products firsthand, as well as attend training sessions and meetings. The TechCenter complies with strict guidelines for avoiding COVID-19-related risks – for example, keeping attendance down to small groups and individuals.

"BIG KAISER is open for business and we welcome visitors by appointment," said Reto Adam, CEO at BIG KAISER. "As our industry adjusts to a new normal and COVID-19 restrictions are gradually relaxed, we know that our customers will want to physically see BIG KAISER’s latest products for themselves – and this new TechCenter will enable them to do this, safely and comfortably."

A timeline wall in the TechCenter covers BIG KAISER’s long history with information on the boring and cutting tools that it has developed since starting with the AW 41 in 1954 - the first fine boring head with adjustment using two rings. The presentation then goes through the development steps all the way to the latest EWA 68 from 2019, the first fine boring head that can be automatically adjusted via an external device. The TechCenter extensively showcases the company’s industry-leading capabilities in developing digital tooling systems.

Over the years, BIG KAISER has won multiple awards for its tooling systems, with the EWA recently receiving the Global Industry Award 2020 in the category 'production performance'. The EWE Downsize was nominated in 2019 for the PRODEX Award, which the EWD had won in 2016.

BIG KAISER’s TechCenter features a DMU 50 by DMG MORI, a universal state-of-the-art machining center for 5-axis simultaneous machining. A camera that is installed inside, and a large screen outside enable visitors to look inside the machine during a demonstration.

The EWA boring head is currently being intensively tested on this machining center with a focus on developing an automated control platform to run on standard industrial PCs and achieving neat 'plug and play' adaptation with existing, legacy machine tools. BIG KAISER is working closely with leading machine tool developers on integrating the solution with EWA control software running directly on the machine tool itself.

BIG KAISER products are displayed on a total of nine exhibition tables, showcasing more than 100 individual tools and tool combinations, in seven categories: fine boring, drilling out, tool holders, cutting tools, angle heads / high speed spindles, turning tools and measuring instruments, including the Speroni Essentia and Futura Tool presetting and measurement systems.
